Blessing | Bali, Indonesia | 2009

Photographer – Nikola Kostic

This picture was taken during a Melasti ceremony, an important Hindu cleansing ritual that takes place three days before Nyepi – the day of silence that marks the Balinese New Year.

Across the island, colorful processions take place in the ocean where people wash themselves and their temple deities in order to receive the blessings of Baruna, the god of the oceans.

About the Artist

Nikola Kostic |

My name is Nikola Kostic, I was born in Serbia but I call Bali my home, and have been lucky enough to live in Indonesia for the past 15 years.

Photography is my greatest passion – in fact I often think that it is the very reason for my existence. While I love to experiment with different styles and subjects, nothing fascinates me more than cultures in transition.

With the islands of the Indonesian archipelago, and the vibrant countries of south east Asia on my doorstep I am never short of inspiration, and spend much of my time on the road (and on the ocean) capturing the magic of life through a series of fleeting moments.
